Does George Bush Cause Our Bad Luck?

Here's one meaning of the word "Jonah": any person or thing regarded as bringing bad luck. Now, I know that this is going to sound funny, after all, I'm really just a mildly amusing writer, but does the US and, indeed, the entire world, consider Bush a Jonah?

I just wonder if, when this fire broke out, and Bush was summoned to put it out, people saw a man drive up in a gas tanker, hook up a hose, and walk up to the fire ready to put it out by dowsing the fire with gasoline.

When this crisis first hit, I used to ask people how much of it was caused by the feeling that the Bush Administration, given its previous history, would manage to turn a recession into a depression. People just laughed and agreed, but couldn't really quantify their impressions.

The only reason I bring this up now is that, admittedly, I don't get around much, but everyone I know seems to believe that nothing can actually get better until Bush is out of office. In other words, he's a Jonah, and, until we're rid of his influence, recovery is not an option. I don't know how widespread this belief is, but it certainly helps me understand why the people that I know are worried and counting the days until he's history as our President.
