"‘Had it not been for the government’s help in refinancing their debt, they may not have had the cash to pay bonuses.’”

Henry, I'm always investigating the horse after it's out the barn door, Waxman, gets really tough with TARP recipients:

"Representative Henry A. Waxman, who is leading a House investigation of the financial crisis, asked nine big banking companies on Tuesday to explain why they are paying billions of dollars in compensation and bonuses after they accepted cash injections of $125 billion as part of the government’s $700 billion bailout program."

Here's my comment:

Their answer: People agreed to pay us. What’s to justify?

If you wanted conditions on TARP, include them in the legislation. If they don't like the conditions, then they can say no.

If we would have had the Swedish Plan, they'd be working for us, and we tell them what they're going to make, or they can leave.

This is why I hate hybrid programs like TARP. It's an endless argument over money already spent.
