Startin On Why It's Not Like 1988

W. Lane Startin explains on Kos why this election is not like 1988:

"OK, so there are some similarities to 2008. The Olympics were held in Asia. The winner of the presidential election will succeed a two-term Republican incumbent. The Keating Five was in the news.

But don't despair. At least this time, history is very unlikely to repeat itself. Evidence offered below the fold:

it was perceived as a bipartisan mess. Since neither side could really blame the other, the crisis didn't figure as a big issue in the election.

In this election, the financial crisis is much more identified as a GOP crisis, even though there's a real attempt to blame Fannie/Freddie on the Democratic Party.

So I think that, if the Democratic Party can stay focused on the economy, it should do quite well in this election.

I pray we're right.
