"the reopening of the trade route represents an important breakthrough "

From the NY Times, an interesting story:

"NEW DELHI — After more than 60 years, trade opened Tuesday across the de facto border dividing the Indian and Pakistani halves of the disputed region of Kashmir.

A total of 16 Indian trucks, loaded mostly with apples and walnuts, rumbled across on Tuesday morning, according to Pawan Kotwal, the commerce secretary for Indian-administered Kashmir. Trucks from Pakistan were expected to make the return journey later in the afternoon, likely bearing rice and raisins. Trade so far is limited to 21 approved items and two days a week.

Nevertheless, on their long road of rivalry and reconciliation, the reopening of the trade route represents an important breakthrough for India and Pakistan, especially now, as it comes on the heels of fresh acrimony between them."

Can trade help bring peace? Let's hope so.
