What Are Voters Asking For?

Here's an important Diary post from the Daily Kos:

"This morning what seemed to me like an important diary got lost in the noise. The writer is canvassing in a rural county of North Carolina and has feedback about local concerns.

The key graf:

But while Team Obama talks about lobbyists and their hold over Washington , we tell Mabel Critcher if she votes for McCain, her social security check is going down the drain. While Team Obama tries to defend himself against pigs wearing lipstick, we ask Charlie Hollar how he is going to keep gas in his tractor if McCain keeps giving all of Charlie’s hard-earned tax money to big oil companies. While Team Obama gives up on talking about Iraq at all, we console Steve’s grandmother who is terrified she will never see him again because he keeps getting redeployed. While Team Obama talks about how McCain can’t push the buttons on a cell phone, we try to help Sally Ward figure out how to pay for her landline. While Team Obama talks about "change, change, change" generically, we tell a Sarah Palin fan how McCain/Palin is going to tax her health care benefits. (Talk about eyes getting wide on that one: "Really? Are you sure? Oh my God. I didn’t know that.")

The original is fully linked.

The question this raises is one I haven't seen addressed here, on the front page or in rec'd diaries; to what extent is the Obama campaign basing its media strategy and message on intelligence from the ground? There does seem to be a disconnect in my mind between the "more of the same", "lobbyists will run his Whitehouse" message and the more concrete "he's not going to help you put gas in your tank or milk in your fridge, but I will, and here's how"."

Boy do I agree with this assessment. Here's my post on the Daily Kos:

"It's The War And Economy, Contra Kos (2+ / 0-)

In a recent post entitled "No, we're not being played" , Kos argued the following:

"Recent history vindicates the "tough and aggressive" path. We went toe to toe against Rove and his machine in 2006, and our math beat his. I have no doubt we're in for a two-peat this year, and it'll happen because we won't back off from exposing the GOP for the den of lies and corruption it has become."

I don't disagree in hitting back against lies, but argued that Sen. Obama should focus on the economy and war,and what he'll do about them, as they are the winning issues people really care about.

Isn't that what the voters are asking for?
