Is The Personal Political?

Is there a connection between personal life and public life? That question keeps coming up nowadays, and likely always will.

From the point of view of policy, policies should be debated in a rational manner and be based on serious and examined evidence. The logical fallacies like "poisoning the well" should be avoided.

But to the extent that elections are based on the character of the candidates and not on their stated positions, the personal will always obtrude.

It would be very nice if Gov. Palin's personal life could be ignored, as well as the other candidates, but that is not going to happen.

As for hypocrisy, a necessary condition for a two party coalition system as ours, it will always be present and always be railed against.
